Echocardiographic Evaluation of Left Ventricular Functioe in Congestive Heart Failure

Abstract
Echocardiographic evaluation of left ventricular function was performed in normal control subjects and in patients with congestive heart failure. After treatment for congestive heart failure, echocardiographic evaluation of left ventricular function was repeated and the values were compared with pre-treatment values.
The stroke valium, cardiac output, fractional fiber shortening, ejection fraction and mean rate of circumferential fiber shortening were measured from echocardiographic dimensions. The results were as follows
1) The pulse rate and blood pressure were decreased significantly after treatment for congestive heart failure.
2) Patients with congestive heart failure, compared to normal control subjects, had higher value for LVDd and LVDs, but the valus were decreased significantly after treatment for congestive heart failure.
3) Patients with congestive heart failure, compared to normal control subjects, had lower values for fractional fiber shortening, ejection fraction and mean rate of circumferential fiber shortening, but the values were increased significantly after treatment for congestive heart failure.
4) The stroke volume and cardiac output were not changed significantly.
We conclude that echocardiographic evaluation of left ventricular function is a useful tool for the assessment of response to treatment in congestive heart failure.
